The Lake District in England - the Beautiful Setting for the Tale of Peter Rabbit® Picture Book Stories

Flash Area.

Exhibition ended on August 29, 2007 (Wed).

The "PHOTO IS" gallery on the first floor of FUJIFILM SQUARE is delighted to present a photographic exhibition entitled "The Lake District in England - the Beautiful Setting for the Tale of Peter Rabbit® Picture Book Stories. A Photographic Exhibition by Junichi Tsujimaru" which runs from Friday, July 27 to Wednesday, August 29.

The beautiful Lake District in England is the birthplace of Peter Rabbit, the main character of the Peter Rabbit® Picture Book Stories loved by old and young alike. Beatrix Potter (1866-1943), the author and illustrator of the Tale of Peter Rabbit, often spent her childhood summers in the Lake District, and it was here that she developed her deep love of the area's wildlife. After moving to the area as an adult, her rich imagination gave birth to Peter Rabbit and his host of friends.

This exhibition features approximately 45 photographic works of the Lake District, the beautiful setting for the Tale of Peter Rabbit® Picture Book Stories, taken by Japanese photographer Junichi Tsujimaru.

Junichi Tsujimaru was born in Nagasaki in 1948, and made his first trip to England at the age of 20. In 1977, he traveled again to the UK, and spent two years living in London. He began taking nature and travel themed-photographs in 1990. The current exhibition features Tsujimaru's photographic impressions of England's beautiful Lake District setting.

Looking at Tsujimaru's photographs of the birthplace of Peter Rabbit allows viewers to deepen their understanding of the background and the environment that influenced Beatrix Potter's writings.

With the addition of a movie preview corner, the exhibition also serves as a timely introduction to the movie "Miss Potter" (distributed in Japan by Kadokawa Pictures, Inc.) which focuses on Beatrix Potter's life in the Lake District, and is scheduled for general release in September this year.
