Merry Many Santa Clauses!
— a photo exhibition by Akiko Tsunoda
FUJIFILM SQUARE is pleased to announce Merry Many Santa Clauses! — a photo exhibition by Akiko Tsunoda, which runs from December 13 — 27, 2019.
Does Santa Claus really exist?
This is a question that has been asked by children the world over for countless generations. In search of the definitive answer, Akiko Tsunoda visited the World Santa Claus Congress, held in Denmark in the summer of 2011. What she found was not only a group of Santa Clauses dressed in the traditional red and white costumes and three-cornered hats, but an assortment of other Santa Clauses dressed in green and black, and even some elves wearing sweaters! This hotchpotch of Santa Clauses were all known by different names and lived very different lifestyles to each other, but they had all come together at the congress to discuss Christmas and how to make people happy. Akiko Tsunoda was heartened to see this conglomeration of Santa Clauses working together for the sake of children around the world, and felt the desire to let more people know about this. So, for the next eight years, she spent her time taking photos of Santa Clauses.
For this exhibition, Ms. Tsunoda has carefully selected images from among her many photographs of Santa Clauses from Denmark, Norway and Sweden, and added new photographic works taken at the World Santa Claus Congress 2019, also held in Denmark this summer. The exhibition seeks to bring smiles to people's faces by viewing heart-warming images of Santa.
Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the images of this ‘family of Santas’ who actually work all year round — not only at Christmas — to make dreams come true and spread happiness around the world.

- In 1991, the Association for Corporate Support of the Arts founded these awards, which recognize highly beneficial projects by corporations and corporate foundations for the support of the arts, with the aim of encouraging corporate patronage of artistic projects and increasing public interest in these activities.
- The awardees are decided on the basis of an evaluation that covers the company's ingenuity and making use of its managerial resources, the involvement of the company in the arts, culture and the wider community, the company's attitude to continuing and expanding the activities, and the activities' degree of importance in contributing to the arts and wider culture.
- This year's awards, entitled “This is MECENAT 2018”, attracted 152 entrants. A town of third-party experts selected a total of seven awards, namely, the Grand Mécénat Award, five Awards for excellence and the Award Granted by the Commissioner for Cultural Affairs.
