Highlights

This exhibit is a unique homage to renown Edo Period ukiyoe artist Katsushika Hokusai by Mineko Orisaku that fuses photographs taken from the places where Hokusai painted his masterpiece “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji” with traditional Japanese gold leaf handicraft known as “haku”.

About the exhibition

FIJIFILM SQUARE will hold FUJIFILM SQUARE Photo Exhibition, Mineko Orisaku Photo Exhibition “Hommage to Hokusai -- Travelling to Eternity --” from Wednesday, July 21, 2021 till Thursday, August 19, 2021.
The photographer, Mineko Orisaku, has pursued a fusion of photography and Haku (leaf), a traditional craft of Japan *1, since releasing in 2017. “Acuity”*2 developed by FUJIFILM Corporation has greatly contributed to beautiful printing on delicate haku leaf, requiring a process that differs from printing on photographic paper or washi (Japanese paper). The development of digital technologies has widened the range of possibilities for printing materials as well as color reproduction, and we feel that we have approached the true meaning of photography, or a drawing created by particles of light.

This exhibition presents photographs taken by the photographer, as a homage to Hokusai, who made a pilgrimage to the places for which the masterpiece “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji” is named, and pressed the button of FUJIFILM’s GFX, a large format digital camera, while paying homage to Mount Fuji, one of the most beautiful peak mountains in the world.
You can enjoy Mount Fuji, a spiritual home in Japanese hearts, as interpreted by Mineko Orisaku’s subtle sensitivity and presented with a unique style, together with another FUJIFILM SQUARE Photo Exhibition “Spirit of the Japanese: Thirty-Six Views of Mt. Fuji of Times Now Past”-- Hokusai and Four Great Masters, which will be held at Space 1, 2 of Fujifilm Photo Salon Tokyo during the same period.

  • *1A new method of photograph printing presentation, creating a photograph by spraying UV ray curable ink with ink jet printer onto such leaves as gold, platinum, silver and aluminum.
  • *2Acuity: FUJIFILM’s business-use, wide format ink jet printing system with UV ray curable ink, printing high-quality images on media of various materials and sizes.

Long-term Goal of FUJIFILM Group

International long-term targets such as Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs*1) and the Paris Agreement*2 have been announced recently in the drive to resolve social issues. Expectations concerning the role of companies as players in resolving social issues and building a sustainable society are especially increasing. In view of these developments, the SVP 2030 has set as its long-term goal for 2030 to contribute to achieving the goals for resolving global social issues set by SDGs, the Paris Agreement, etc.
Ten out of the 17 goals were recognized as goals that enable Fujifilm to make major contributions to achieving its SDGs. Concrete measures to achieve these goals were also defined.

*1 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals): A collection of global goals adopted at the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 that the international community should take action for by 2030 as social challenges. They contain 17 goals and 169 targets related to poverty, correction of inequality and injustice, health, education, decent work, and climate and environment.

*2 Paris Agreement: International, multilateral agreement on arresting climatic changes that was adopted by the 21st Session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP 21) held in Paris in 2015.
