Highlights

In the post-Covid world, photographer George Nobechi, whose father was Canadian, embarked on a 10,000km road trip from Vancouver to Denali National Park in Alaska and back. This exhibition features over 50 photographs from the Canadian West and Alaska that convey the atmosphere of the journey.

About the exhibition

FUJIFILM presents the George Nobechi photography exhibition, “Roads to Denali” from March 10 (Friday) to March 23 (Thursday), 2023.

Once upon a time, the photographer George Nobechi, whose father was Canadian, used to travel with his family around the expansive landscapes of the Canadian West. Last summer, he embarked on a 10,000km road trip from Canada to as yet unseen Denali National Park, the hallowed grounds that include North America's highest peak of the same name (aka Mt. McKinley).

Mr. Nobechi graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2002 and worked as a trader at investment banks in Tokyo and New York until 2014, following which he began his career as a photographer. As a child who loved nature, the great wilderness of the Yukon Territory and Alaska were dream destinations. As he transitioned from the busy world of Finance to exploring his homeland of Japan with camera in hand, his interest grew in returning to his other homeland, Canada, and to seeing the “natural sanctuary” that lies beyond.

On August 8, 2022, he began his dream road trip and departed Vancouver. Journeying 10,000km across 21 days on a compressed schedule, Mr. Nobechi discovered that the great wilderness of Alaska surrounding Mt. Denali was even more beautiful than he had imagined.
It is said that “All Roads Lead to Rome”, but for Mr. Nobechi, “All Roads Lead to Denali”. This photographic exhibition traces his journey from Vancouver to Alaska and back.
